The Curaçao Belastingdienst states that certain business taxpayers wrongly received additional assessments with penalties for May 2026 concerning turnover tax, wage tax and social security contributions. Payments already received had not yet been entered into the systems when the notices were issued.

The administration says it has identified the taxpayers concerned and plans to cancel the erroneous notices automatically, without an objection or other action on their part. We note that this procedural exemption relates to the expressly acknowledged payment-processing error.

A useful check is whether the payment reference, period and amount match the assessment received. Keeping these records makes it possible to monitor the announced cancellation and explain a persistent anomaly. This verification must be distinguished from filing an objection, which the announcement considers unnecessary only for the identified cases. A business whose notice does not correspond to the acknowledged error cannot decide how to proceed on this announcement alone.

It therefore cannot be understood as a general remission of debts or an exemption from challenging every assessment relating to May. In practice, the notice and payment must still be matched to the error described; another period, another tax or a dispute about the amount requires separate examination.
