For Taxable Persons whose financial year ended on 31 December 2025, the FTA's announcement of 2 September 2026 recalls the deadline of 30 September 2026 for filing the return and paying the tax due.

Small Business Relief does not exempt its beneficiaries from filing a simplified return. We therefore note that tax relief must not be confused with an exemption from filing. Preparing the return remains important even where the business intends to benefit from this measure.

The announcement does not, however, determine whether a particular business qualifies. Its circumstances must still be checked against the conditions for relief. The examination should separate three questions: the period concerned, the return to be filed and the tax actually due. Meeting a deadline does not, by itself, demonstrate that the tax treatment adopted is justified.
