In its notice of 31 March 2026, DITC distinguishes registration, CRS and FATCA reporting, and CRS Compliance Form deadlines for calendar year 2025. These formalities therefore do not share a single deadline.
The notice extends to 31 January 2027 the registration of two CRS details: designation of the principal point of contact in the Islands and the date on which the Cayman institution became a financial institution. We note that this extension is expressly limited to these two elements.
Preparing to remedy a position can therefore begin with an inventory of the steps actually completed: registration information, data submission and the compliance form. This distinction avoids treating a file as up to date because its contact person has been entered, or inferring from the targeted extension that financial data can wait. Classifying each possible delay precedes consideration of the appropriate procedure; the notice does not provide a uniform solution for all omissions.
The extension must not be used to defer all reporting or the compliance form, for which the notice announces separate deadlines in 2026. Before relying on extra time, the institution must identify the missing formality and the provision addressing it; this brief does not determine whether a particular account is reportable.
