On 15 September 2026, the Revenue Department announces signature of the multilateral competent authority agreement on exchange of GloBE information. The announcement states that the OECD added Thailand to the signatory list on 8 September and envisages initial GIR exchanges with partners by December 2027.

The described purpose is circulation of information on large multinational groups under the global minimum tax. Reducing repetitive reporting is an objective of the mechanism; it does not demonstrate that every entity immediately qualifies for a filing exemption.

A group can prepare a map of entities and jurisdictions to which the same information would be sent. This identifies potential duplication without eliminating filings before checking the conditions of the announced exchanges. Centralised information must be distinguished from a local tax return and payment. The agreement offers a prospect of documentary simplification; it does not justify discontinuing a filing in a particular country on its own.

In practice, signature must be distinguished from exchanges actually operating with a particular jurisdiction. The announcement does not resolve a group's local obligations or the conditions for relying on a centralised return. Nor does it determine its top-up tax.
